As we countdown to Christmas, Wil-Kil Pest Control has taken a familiar carol, and tweaked it to remind homeowners how to keep unwanted pests from crashing holiday parties this season.  As the days continue to get shorter and the nights chillier, we will most likely migrate indoors and gather with family and friends around a warm fireplace or holiday table. Keep in mind, our pest friends like to stay warm, just as much as we do.  In the midst of the wonderful chaos that is the holiday season, keep these 12 Pest Tips of Christmas on hand to keep these unwanted pests from ruining your holiday cheer.

1. On the first day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Ensure all doors, windows, skylights and chimneys are properly sealed.

2. On the second day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house. Critters love to cozy up between the logs.

3. On the third day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Inspect boxes of decorations and grocery bags before bringing these items into the house.

4. On the fourth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Store clothing inside plastic containers and check shoes before putting them on, as spiders tend to call them home.

5. On the fifth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Trim bushes and shrubs so they are not in contact with your home and make sure tree branches are at least six-feet away.

6. On the sixth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Repair any holes in window and door screens.

7. On the seventh day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Install or repair door sweeps on exterior doors.

8. On the eighth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Regularly inspect in and around your home for possible pest access points.

9. On the ninth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Keep your eyes peeled for ice dams forming on roofs, which attract moisture-loving pests.

10. On the tenth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Make sure that your home isn’t missing any shingles. These prove perfect places for pests to enter homes.

11. On the eleventh day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Check basements and attics for standing water after heavy rain.

12. On the twelfth day of Christmas, Wil-Kil said to me: Keep counters and floors clean, frequently vacuuming and disposing of garbage.

Armed with these tips and the zeal of the holiday season, you can keep your home pest free and your guests happy!
