How to prevent stings and nests
When it comes to stinging insects, the best thing is to prevent them from nesting on your property and especially inside of your home. These insects are not usually aggressive by nature but they will sting if they feel threatened either accidentally or purposefully. To avoid stings and nests, here are some tips:
- Inspect the outside of your home for an abundance of stinging insects and/or nests in trees, shrubs, underground, and on the sides of the home.
- Use caution when gardening or playing outside as an accidental encounter with a colony of stinging insects is likely to end in a lot of painful stings. Always wear closed toe shoes and avoid bright colored clothing.
- Avoid bringing sugary drinks and food outside as this will attract stinging insects to the property.
- Be sure that your home is properly sealed off on the foundation, windows, and door frames. If windows are open they should have a screen that is well intact with no holes, gaps, or tears.
