MILWAUKEE — Millions of tiny bugs called midges have taken over Milwaukee’s lakefront on one of the first warm Mondays of the season.

Entomologist Randy Allen tells us the midges are a non-biting bug that typically emerges from clean water in the spring. He says the abundance of bugs is an indication of clean water. He believes our wet winter and spring created prime conditions for breeding.

Allen says midges are short-lived. In a couple of weeks we won’t notice them, but by then he says mosquitoes will dominate the lakefront.
