Avoiding bed bugs during the holiday season can be more challenging than during the rest of the year. With people traveling to see friends and families for the holidays, there will be even more bed bugs around than usual. Visiting hotels, using public transportation and even visiting the homes of friends and families can all cause you to come into contact with bed bugs. And when you’ve come into contact with these hitchhiking bloodsuckers, there’s a very good chance you will unknowingly pick them up during your journeys.
As we get ready to travel for the holidays, so do bed bugs. These insects are excellent hitchhikers, catching a ride on anything they can find so that they may follow you to your next destination. If you have bed bugs in your home, they may hide away in your suitcase, joining you on your holiday travels.
It was a mild winter and an early start to the spring for many in Wisconsin, and already it is time to bring out the grill and plan some outdoor activities and maybe even a hiking trip. For those eager to enjoy the spring season outside, a word of caution. Ticks in Wisconsin have made an early return along with the spring and unfortunately people and pets may be on the receiving end of a tick bite.
Lots of preparation goes into the holiday season, especially here at Wil-Kil. A lot of us here have families, so we know what goes into creating an exciting and fun holiday celebration that the whole family can enjoy. We spend a lot of time stringing lights on the outsides of our homes, decorating the insides of our homes with ornaments, wreaths and holiday figurines and spending time in the kitchen, baking up holiday treats to share with friends and family and to create that all important holiday meal. Most people do very little pest prevention this time of year, because pests are not on our radar during this joyful season. Unfortunately, if you don’t do some pest prevention, you could end up with a pest invasion as the weather gets colder and your holiday season will be ruined as the pitter patter of tiny mouse feet run through your attic.
